CLASS FULL: Intro to Colorwork

Learn how to create beautiful patterns using stranded colorwork! In this class, we will discuss how to read a colorwork chart, how to understand guage and tension, how to alternate colors and the importance of color dominance, as well as gain familiarity with various stitches and techniques while switching colors. We will be making the beautiful Belfair Hat by Rachel A. McClain.

Skills Required: Please know how to cast on and bind off, knit and purl in the round, and make increases and decreases.

Materials to bring from home or purchase:

  • Purchase pattern here
  • Size US5 and US7 circular 16” needles
  • Yarn: Three colors are required to achieve the design, one main and two contrast. Bring 180 yards of MC, and 50 yards of CC1 and CC2 in worsted or DK
  • Stitch markers and darning needle

Homework: Please make sure to have the ribbing of hat completed before coming to class. We will be jumping into the colorwork section at start of class.
